Tamiflu Decision Support
Is the patient being admitted?
Oral or enterically administered oseltamivir is recommended as soon as possible for all hospitalized patients.
Severe or progressive illness?
- Lower Respiratory Disease: Clinical signs or radiologic evidence of pneumonia.
- Complicated Course: Respiratory failure, sepsis, or acute worsening of chronic conditions.
- Progressive Disease: Symptoms are objectively worsening or failing to improve.
Is the patient High Risk?
- Age: Children < 5 years old (highest risk < 2 years).
- Chronic Disease: Asthma, Heart Disease, Diabetes, or Neurologic conditions.
- Immunosuppression: Due to medication or underlying disease.
- Pregnancy: Currently pregnant or up to 2 weeks postpartum.
Symptom Onset
Treatment is most effective when initiated within 48 hours of illness onset.
