Melding medicine and illustration at every opportunity has long been a goal of mine. While it doesn't present itself frequently I have initiated some small medical projects. These illustrations both were created as visual studying tools, the first to represent the percentage of various lipoproteins, the second being a project inspired by Harry Beck to simplify gastric anatomy.
While Dr. Netters's drawings beautifully represent common human anatomy, they do not always act as the best study tools. In my experience learning anatomy revolves more on vessels and organs relationship to each other, rather then a more realistic visualization. The gastric subway is a playful project to experiment on how I best learn.
