dartmouth crest

Dartmouth’s crest is in stark contrast to the other ivy league schools traditional symbols. While it’s certainly good to differentiate from the sea of bland formalities, having a naked native american on a public symbol is somewhat embarrassing. I feel as though Dartmouth agrees, since it has changed, simplified, and generally shied away from promoting the crest that represents our school. While my alma mater has chosen to drop our mascot, the “Indian” for PC reasons, it hasn’t done the same with our crest. I spent a little bit to make a more updated and modernized symbol, though I’m fairly disappointed with my attempts. I’d be interested to see what others could produce, given the task to modernize the crest, yet keep the traditions of Dartmouth alive.
