I read this excerpt about a american man who had comissioned a painting from a japenese artist. The artist had painted a bird sitting in a tree in the ver upper right corner of the canvas, leaving the majority of the canvas blank. The American was visibly upset when he saw the painting, citing that there was nothing on it, and preceeded to demand the artist add something in the blank space. Shaking his head, the artist refused to change the painting. When pushed by the American as to why he wouldn’t add to all the empty space, the artist simply said, “if i filled the canvas, the bird would have no room to fly.”
Well in spirit on thanksgiving I draw this quick sketch for all the fallen “soldiers” that truly made this day possible. Though domestic farm raised turkeys are too heavy to fly, I left this one plenty of room in case he ever choose to.
